When I was a child, my father was a big sumo fan,
and we would often watch intense sumo matches at home.
But it wasn’t until recently that I truly began to feel
the spiritual depth of sumo.
From the initial charge (tachi-ai),
a whole life’s determination is compressed into just a few seconds.
Watching rikishi dedicate themselves to this sacred way moved me deeply.
I wrote this song to express that respect and emotion—
and to help bring sumo, a unique Japanese tradition,
closer to people around the world.
